MUSKEGON—Mona Shores baseball players Mark Konecny and Aaron Piasecki are in some pretty elite company.

The Sailors were selected to play in Monday’s East-West 2022 MHSBCA (Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association) All Star game at Comerica Park in Detroit. 

Piasecki, who is bound for Kellogg Community College, led the Sailor’s in  batting average (.485), hits (50), doubles (11), triples (3) and stolen bases (42). Piasecki is expected to play shortstop and second base at the next level.

The 42 stolen bases broke the single season stolen base record at Mona Shores. He had 103 plate appearances and only struck out three times while walking 19 times.

“It’s going to be a fun opportunity,” Piasecki said. “I think it’s every kids dream. I grew up a Tigers fan and have been to Comerica a number of times to watch the Tigers play.”

“Piasecki has been a staple in the middle of our infield for the last four seasons,” Sailor coach Brandon Bard said. “He’s started at shortstop since he was a freshman.

“Aaron has manned the three-hole in the batting order the last couple of seasons,” Bard said. His .485 batting average is among the best of all-time at Shores.

Konecny, a first baseman for the Sailors, is signed with Western Michigan University to play football. He led Mona Shores in at bats (111), home runs (9), RBIs (43) and runs scored (47). His 9 home runs tied a school record for home runs. That home run total was matched in 1988 and 2000, but is the highest total since new bat regulations have been put into place. Konecny also had a hand in 90 of the Sailors 307 runs scored.

“It’s going to be sweet,” said Konecny. “I’ve only been to Comerica one time. So it’ll be a lot of fun playing in the same ballpark that the pros do.”

“Konecny and Piasecki batted in the two and three holes all season long for us,” Bard said. “Offensively, the two combined to lead the team in every offensive category for our offense.

The pair will be the third and fourth players in Sailor history to be nominated to the East-West All Star game. Previously, Ryan Rozycki and Tyler Trovinger were Sailors that participated in the all-star game.

“This is an incredible honor for these two, but also one final way to appreciate the impact these two have left on our program,” Bard said. “They will leave huge shoes to fill in our program and as a program we are grateful to have been able to watch their varsity baseball careers.”

Game time is set for 4 p.m. Monday.
