MUSKEGON — The highly ranked Mona Shores baseball team dropped a 5-3 MHSAA Division 1 district semifinal game to Reeths-Puffer on the Rockets’ field on Saturday to end its season prematurely.

Puffer’s pitching held the Sailors to just four hits on the day, limiting their ability to generate any offensive punch.

Trailing 5-0 entering the fifth inning, Mona Shores mounted a rally to cut the deficit to two runs.

But, that would be as close as the Sailors would get.

Mark Konecny singled to get the rally started, and went to third on a double by Diego Pena.

Jaxon Huffman drew an intentional walk to load the bases, and then Jason Anderson was hit by a pitch which forced in the first run of the game for Mona Shores.

Puffer then committed an error when Javanni Johnson put the ball in play, pushing home the second run of the inning. Hunter Kreuger came home on a wild pitch.

The Sailors had the tying run in scoring position, but were unable to connect with the key hit that would have knotted the score.

Jason Anderson took the loss, his first as a Sailor, and Johnson did a solid job throwing four innings of relief. Huffman retired the last three Rocket batters.

Mona Shores finished the season 30-5.
