GRAND RAPIDS—After a long rain delay, the Montague Wildcats came out slugging on Tuesday night and routed Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian 16-1.

The game was played on the campus of Davenport University in Grand Rapids.

The Wildcats scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back on their way to a victory in a game that lasted four innings.

Montague tacked on one run in the second inning,  two runs in the third and finished off NorthPointe Christian by pushing across eight runs in the fourth inning.

The Mustangs scored their lone run in the third inning.

Montague racked up eight hits, led by Nick Moss who went 3-for-3 with 5 RBIs and Kade Johnson, who contributed a triple and drove in two runs.

NorthPointe was limited to just two hits.

Johnson got the win 3 1/3 innings of work. He struck out seven and walked three.

The Wildcats (23-14) return at 10 a.m. Saturday to Davenport University, where they will play the winner of today’s matchup between Lansing Catholic and Laingsburg.
