GRAND RAPIDS — Ludington’s girls swimming and diving team finished eighth, 10 points behind Spring Lake in Division 3 Saturday at the Northview Invite in Grand Rapids.

Spring Lake was seventh with 106 points and Ludington tallied 96 while Manistee was 11th with four points. Northview took the championship trophy with 386.

The Orioles recorded 20 lifetime best times in individual events and eight season best times, swimming shorter races against some very fast teams they don’t normally see for dual meets.

Freshman Madison Bearup won the 50-yard breaststroke despite not being seeded in the fastest heat. Entries ranged from 50-100 swimmers per individual event, so everyone had someone to race.

Izzie Lundberg just missed placing top 16 in diving.

Lundberg did place 16th as a member of the 200-yard medley relay with her teammates Kylie Sailor, Erika Hatch and Ayiana Rangel.

Cora Mahler took third in the 50-yard butterfly and sixth in the 100-yard freestyle. Reese Willis finished eighth in the 50-yard freestyle and 15th in the 100-yard freestyle. Bearup was sixth in the 100-yard individual medley.

Willis, Grace Highley, Mahler and Bearup teamed up in the 200-yard freestyle relay and combined for 10th.

Scorers for Spring Lake included Charlise Carlson who finished 10th in the 1-meter diving event. Hannah Brown finished 11th and Rose Tegan 13th in the 100-yard freestyle. Brown was also 12th in the 50-yard freestyle and Tegan finished 14th.

Emma Miller, Sadie Vander Heide, Bella Boodt and Hannah Brown with a sixth in the 200-yard medley relay. Kyla Meyers finished 13th while Boodt took 14th in the 100-yard IM. Boodt was also 10th in the 50-yard butterfly, while Alana Mazurek finished 13th.

Renee Geschiere also scored for the Lakers with a 15th place in the 50-yard backstroke. Vander Heide was ninth in the 50-yard breaststroke and Ava Fouchea finished 16th.

The Lakers were 11th in the 200-yard freestyle relay swum by Fouchea, Mazurek, Meyers and Tegan.

Manistee’s only scorer was Lauren Mezeske, who was 16th in the 50-yard freestyle.

Ludington travels to Spring Lake for a double dual meet with Spring Lake and Grandville on Thursday. Meanwhile, Manistee hosts Muskegon Mona Shores.
