ONEKAMA — Mason County Eastern’s girls volleyball team fell to Onekama in three sets in its season opener Monday night in Onekama.

The Cardinals scored just 13 points in the first two sets.

After dropping the first two sets, 25-8 and 25-5, the Cardinals bounced back with a better showing in the third set, but still came up short, 25-18.

“We have a very young team this year,” said Eastern head coach Hilary Wright. “Overall, we did some really good things. But, we have some things to work out yet.”

It was the senior starters leading the way for the Cardinals. Adriana Bosley finished the match with 10 assists to spark the offense and added four digs on defense.

Deanna Codman paced the front row with seven attacks and also contributed defensively with five digs. Senior Janessa Alvesteffer added six attacks, three digs and one assist.

Eastern sophomore Ashley Willoughby had two attacks, three digs and one tip. Cardinal freshman Mackenzie Wright had four digs and two assists, while freshman Miley Kessel had eight digs, one attack and one ace.

The Cardinals travel to Bear Lake for a triangular with the Lakers and McBain Northern Michigan Christian next Tuesday.
