GRAND HAVEN –The Mona Shores volleyball team went 1-2 on the day at the Grand Haven Invitational.

The Sailors played in some close sets and battled throughout the tournament.

Pool play opened with the Sailors taking down East Grand Rapids (25-22, 25-13, 25-23) followed by a hard loss to Portage Northern (15-25, 25-19, 13-15).

The Sailors, in the Gold bracket, came up short against Mattawan (15-25, 25-23, 12-15).

Jersey VanderWall made 25 kills and three blocks, while Ava Dunn had 19 kills and four blocks.

Kyann Hellmann chipped in with 56 assists, 17 digs and five aces. Izzy Sturtevant added 27 digs with nine aces and Mallory Hogston had  nine digs and two aces.

Mona Shores (5-2) will compete in the Battle for the Boardwalk on Friday.
