GRAND HAVEN – It was a beautiful day for volleyball by the water as teams competed in the Battle of the Boardwalk on Friday, hosted by Grand Haven.

Mona Shores, Spring Lake and Fruitport also competed.

The Sailors did their thing and captured their third consecutive boardwalk championship with wins over Grand Haven (25-13, 25-18), Fruitport (27-25, 25-12) and Spring Lake (25-19, 25-12).

Kyann Hellmann led for the Sailors with 36 assists, 11 digs and seven aces. Ava Dunn added 13 kills and four aces, while Mallory Hogston chipped in six digs and four aces.

Izzy Sturtevant and Ali Trautner also contributed 14 digs and 13 kills, respectively.

The Trojans finished the day 1-2 with a win over Spring Lake (20-25, 25-20, 16-14), a loss to Grand Haven (20-25, 22-25) and a loss to Mona Shores.

Gracelynn Olson had 16 assists, 12 kills, nine digs and seven aces, while Sadie Haase had 21 kills, 11 digs and three aces.

Kayla Kolberg had 12 digs, six assists and two aces and Tara Sweet had 12 digs, three kills and an ace. Raegan Dykstra had 14 digs, 10 assists and two kills.

Lauren Riedel and Hope Straley added seven digs and four kills, respectively.

The Lakers also went 1-2 with a win over Grand Haven (25-12, 25-23) and losses to Mona Shores and Fruitport.

Ella Gapyczynski contributed seven aces and seven kills, while Ella Constantine scored five aces.

Kiele Stephenson and Brooke Bolthouse made 29 and 22 digs, respectively.

Anna Fumarolo had six blocks and Kalli Lewkowski had 10 kills.

Also, Rylee Sabo had 18 assists.

Mona Shores (8-2) will be at home on Tuesday for a quad against Whitehall, Fremont and Jenison.

Fruitport will visit Reeths-Puffer on Tuesday.

Spring Lake (6-3) will travel to Zeeland East on Monday.
