LUDINGTON — Ludington’s girls swimming and diving team opened its season Saturday by hosting a relay meet against Traverse City, Mona Shores, Cadillac and Manistee.

Traverse City finished first with 126 points, followed by Mona Shores with 106. Ludington finished third with 98 points. Manistee was fourth with 42 points.

The Orioles picked up three first places — the 400-yard individual medley relay (Erika Hatch, Kylie Sailor, Kylie Hatch and Madison Bearup) in 5:11.71, the 500 Crescendo Relay (Ayiana Rangel (50 free), Kylie Sailor (100 free) and Izzie Lundberg (200 free) in 5:48.39, and the 200 freestyle relay (Reese Willis, Cora Mahler, Erika Hatch and Bearup) in 1:50.10.

“After two weeks of practice, I was happy with how the team performed,” Coach Kelley Hatch said. “Many girls had the opportunity to race in events that they don’t normally swim.”

Mona Shores took first in the 400 freestyle relay with Sussie Van Baale, Mille Curow, Evan Stout and Marilyn Gaston combining for a time of 4:22.64.

It also placed second in the 400 medley relay as Delaney Buckner, Naomi Huttenga, Robyn Hunt and Sydney Sytsema finished in 4:25.88.

The Sailors also were second in the 200 breaststroke relay with Sytsema, Grace Offman, Van Baale and Huttenga in 2:36.79.

Another second came in the 200 backstroke relay (Sophia Zziwambazza, Gaston, Lidia Carty and Stout) at 2:14.30.

Mona Shores was second in the 200 butterfly relay (Hunt, Carty, Stout and Buckner) in 2:07.65 and second in the 200 medley relay (Buckner, Huttenga, Hunt, Sytsema) in 2:00.13.

Manistee finished second in the 400 freestyle relay (Lauren Mezeske, Laura Eix, Tatum Jensen and Macaela Bruce) in 4:31.53.

The Orioles travel to Grand Haven on Tuesday for a double dual with Grand Haven and Holland Christian.
