WHITE CLOUD — Hart’s football team was trailing in the second half, but buckled down and was eventually able to overcome the deficit and come away with a rugged 38-19 victory over White Cloud on the road Thursday night.

Both teams are now 1-1.

“That made it a gratifying win, because we had to work so hard for it,” said Hart coach Joe Tanis. “We had some guys who played extremely well tonight.”

Joseluis Andaverde had 21 carries for 171 yards, and also had two kick returns for a total of 111 yards.

Defensively, Trenton Swihart led the Pirates with 10 tackles. Austin Martinez and Trayce Tate followed up with 8 tackles each.

Martinez also had a 50-yard “scoop and score” fumble recovery in the fourth quarter that was forced by Andaverde. That sealed the game for the Pirates.

White Cloud’s leading rushers included Jace Silverthorn, who gained 96 yards and scored two touchdowns, and Landyn McGowen, who added 95 yards and a touchdown.

Nate Compeau had 85 yards receiving and Alex Cruzan had 23.

Cruzan and Carlos Brown each had 9 tackles while Silverthorn added 7 and Lloyd Sebright-Johnson made 5 stops.

The Indians are at home again Friday, Sept. 9 against Hesperia. Hart is at home against Shelby.
