FREMONT — Fremont hosted Manistee in its first home West Michigan Conference-Lakes match on Tuesday night and came away with a three-set victory, 25-12, 25-15, 25-11.

Offensive leaders for the Packers included Carle Bruggema, Kendall Barnhart and Avery Christofferson, who each had six service aces.

Sage Vandenberg led the attackers with 12 kills while Bruggema, Taylor Waite and Mia Clemence added four kills apiece.

Bruggema chipped in with 18 assists.

Defensively, the Packers had 34 digs with Christofferson with eight while Baylah Parker had seven.

Vandenberg, Tracy Tanner and Liv Hansen each added a block for the Packers.

Manistee’s coach Ana Shoemaker saw further improvement from her team in the loss.

“The girls fought hard and played well together,” Shoemaker said. “There was nothing for any of us to be disappointed about.

“They have come a long way already this season as a team, and I am very proud of them all. Their growth and love for the game is undeniable.”

Allison Kelley led the Chippewas with 12 service receives, two aces and nine digs.

Libby McCarthy had five kills. Ashtn Janis had two assists and one setter attack.

Fremont, 1-1 in the league, returns to the court on Thursday when it travels to Ravenna.

Manistee’s next match is Thursday at Holton.
