GRAND HAVEN –The Fruitport and Montague volleyball teams competed in the Grand Haven Invitational on Friday.

Fruitport played to a 2-2 split on the day.

The Trojans opened pool play with a win against Livonia Churchill (25-17, 25-16) and Grand Rapids Catholic Central (18-25, 26-24, 17-15), but fell to McBain (18-25, 15-25).

After going 2-1 in pool play, the Trojans advanced as the second seed in the gold bracket to face host Grand Haven.

The action was close but the Trojans fell short and lost to the Bucs (20-25, 20-25) in the semi-final round.

Sadie Haase had 35 kills, while Gracelynn Olson added 39 assists and 15 kills.

Hope Straley threw in 10 kills and Raegan Dykstra made 22 assists. Auebre Johnson scored three aces and Tara Sweet contributed 16 digs and two aces.

Kayla Kolber had 62 digs defensively, while Lauren Riedel made 19 digs.

Montague played in some close matches but struck out with a record of 0-4.

The Wildcats lost to Grand Rapids Catholic Central (25-17, 25-22), Leland (25-13, 23-25, 9-15), East Grand Rapids (22-25, 25-16, 8-15) and Grand Haven (17-25, 22-25).

Jacy Arigotti had 16 digs and 11 aces, while Maizie Collins added 23 digs, 14 kills and seven aces.

Laura Borras contributed 27 assists, 20 kills, four aces and three blocks. Jordan Netcott made five digs and four aces and Jaelyn Sundberg got 76 assists, 15 digs and an ace.

Also, Britta Johnson had 27 digs, 10 kills and three blocks, while Alissa Wynn had 26 digs and two aces.

Fruitport will return to the court on Thursday to host Allendale in league play.

Montague will also see conference action when they host Fremont on Tuesday.
