LUDINGTON — Ludington sophomore Cora Mahler qualified for the MHSAA state meet in the 100-yard butterfly with a first-place finish Thursday night.

The Orioles dropped a 102-74 decision to Traverse City West, 102-74 in their home pool.

Izzie Lundberg, Madison Bearup, Mahler and Reese Willis just missed qualifying in the 200-yard medley relay by just 0.71 of a second.

“I was impressed with swims by Erika Hatch in the 200-yard individual medley, Kylie Sailor and Kaitlin Carlson in the 500-yard freestyle,” Ludington coach Erin Hatch said, “as well as Izzie Lundberg in the 100-yard backstroke.”

Also recording event victories for the Orioles were Bearup in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke, in which she bettered her state time.

Willis tied with Traverse City’s Cam Crosby for first place in the 50-yard freestyle.

Lundberg won the diving competition and Mahler also took first in the 500-yard freestyle.

Willis finished second in the 100-yard freestyle. The Orioles’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Lundberg, Erika Hatch, Ayiana Pansang-Rangal and Kylie Sailor also came in second.

Also taking second place for the Orioles was their 400-yard freestyle relay team of Willis, Hatch, Mahler and Bearup.
