TWIN LAKE—The Montague Wildcats girls golf team took home the 2022 GMAA (Greater Muskegon Athletic Association) golf title on Wednesday afternoon with a runaway victory over the field.

The was event held at Stonegate Community and Golf Club.

The Wildcats finished 27 shots ahead of runner-up Mona Shores. Montague shot a 361 and finished third. The Sailors finished at 388. The Whitehall Vikings came in third place at 395.

The remainder of the team scores included: North Muskegon (419), Fruitport (435), Oakridge (449), Holton (472) and Western Michigan Christian (515). Reeths-Puffer only played with three golfers and did not compete as a team.

Taking top individual honors for the day was Montague junior Mackenzie Goudreau who shot a 75. She was followed by Reeths-Puffer junior Paige Anderson 80 and Montague senior Natalie Kellogg finished in third place at 83.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our leaders, Mack and Nat, who played like the champions they are today,” Montague coach Phil Kerr said. ” Mackenzie set a new school record and put her name on the individual city champs list.  That’s such an incredible accomplishment, and she’s the first Wildcat to do so.  And I’m so happy for Brooke and Abby and Lauren who have been working hard for years to get a shot at playing in one of these and they performed so well under championship pressure.  This one means a lot.” 

Other top ten golfers included Mona Shores sophomore Mayson Southland (84), Whitehall junior Ava Garcia (85), Reeths-Puffer sophomore Rowan Bluhm (94), Whitehall senior Lizbeth Bentz (98), Montague senior Brooke Berry (99), Holton sophomore Karley Plekes (100) and Mona Shores junior Maddie Etterman (100).
