MORLEY– The Newaygo Lions broke into the win column in impressive fashion on Friday night.
The visiting Lions blanked the Morley-Stanwood Mohawks 20-0 and gave Coach Scott Force his first career victory.
On the Lions’ second drive, Grant Harkness threw a screen pass to Remy Wells that turned into a 75-yard touchdown.
On Newaygo’s third drive, Harkness connected with Wells for a 9-yard touchdown pass that put Newaygo up 14-0.
Near the end of the third quarter, Dyllan Bazzett had an interception for a touchdown to give the Lions a 20-0 lead.
Harkness led the Lions with 36 yards rushing and 200 yards passing with two passing touchdowns.
Wells led the receivers with 114 yards and two touchdowns
On defense, Harkness led the Lions with 13 tackles with a tackle for loss.
Gavin Culver had nine tackles while Miguel Alvarez had eight.
Besides his interception for a touchdown. Bazzett had three tackles, two for loss.
Newaygo is now 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the Central State Activities Association.
The Lions travel to Howard City Tri-County next Friday.
