MUSKEGON — Oakridge fought hard, and played well but came up short in a three-set loss to visiting Shelby in a West Michigan Conference-Rivers girls volleyball match at home Thursday night.

The Eagles fell by just three points in the first set, 22-25 and continued to battle the visiting Tigers point for point in the second set but lost by two again, 23-25. They lost the third set, 14-25.

Haley Seewald and Gracie Willea both served 100 percent for the match, combining for 22 serves and three aces.

Willea paced the Eagles offense with 15 assists in 41 attempts, while Madison Babinec contributed seven kills off 10 attacks and Kaelinn Jozsa followed with six kills off 10 attacks.

Babinec, Willea, Lily Blackburn and Gracie Clark each came up with a block.

The Eagles’ back row defense was led by Ahria Dornbos, Mallori Whipple and Haley Whipple who combined for 30 digs.

Oakridge fell to 2-10 overall and 0-2 in the conference, and travels to Manistee next Tuesday.
