HOLTON—The Ravenna Bulldogs special teams play was outstanding and sparked a massive 61-8 win over Holton on Friday.

The West Michigan Conference-Rivers Division game was over in a heartbeat as Ravenna took a commanding 27-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 48-0 lead at halftime.

In the first quarter, senior quarterback Hunter Hogan returned a punt for a touchdown.

On the ensuing Bulldog possession, senior running back Nathan Kooiman punched in a touchdown from 10 yards out.

Shortly after, Ravenna blocked a Holton punt attempt resulting in a touchdown recovery by Junior Drew Mabrito. Clay Schullo topped the quarter off with a 29 yard touchdown run with 1:30 remaining.

The second quarter was much of the same as Hogan ran in a pair of touchdowns from nine and 11 yards out. Schullo tacked on one more score before the half with a 18 yard touchdown run.

The only scoring of the third quarter happened to be on the opening kick of the second half as the Bulldogs special teams struck again. Schullo returned the kick 70 yards to open up a 55-0 third quarter score.

Holton finally got on the board with 8:10 remaining in the fourth quarter with a seven yard rush by sophomore running back Rilee Pierce.

One last strike from the Bulldogs special teams occurred on the kickoff as Hogan returned the kick 85 yards.

Despite a tough performance by the Red Devils special teams, Holton was able to control the time of possession with maintaining the football for 34 minutes out of the 48 minute game. Holton struggled on third down going 0 for 9 on third down conversions ultimately stalling their offense.

Kooiman was the leading rusher for the Bulldogs with three carries for 57 yards and a touchdown. Schullo and Hogan each found the endzone twice on the ground and once on kick returns, while Hogan also added the punt return to his final touchdown tally.

Defensively for the Bulldogs, Hogan, junior defensive end Carter Schullo, and freshman defensive lineman Brennan Buskirk each had five tackles. Clay Schullo also added a sack on the evening.

Junior quarterback Gavin Wheeler led the charge for the Red Devils offensively, totaling 77 yards on 12 carries.

Senior defensive back Chase Albright, junior linebacker Kamen Covington, and sophomore linebacker Ethan Aleem all collected three tackles on the evening, with Covington having the Red Devils only sack.
