REMUS–The Fremont boys cross country team and Ludington girls’ team will both be competing next week in the Division 2 state meet.

Both finished in the runner-up position on Friday afternoon at the regionals at Chippewa Hills High School.

In the boys’ division, Fremont wound up with 78 points. Other local area team scores included Whitehall (98/fourth), Ludington (158/seventh) and Newaygo (342/11th).

Top runners for Fremont included junior Sean Pettis (fifth), sophomore Carter Sherman (eighth), junior John Christensen (13th), freshman Chase Lowery (26th) and freshman Isaac Romero (31st).

Local individual qualifiers included Whitehall seniors Andre Richmond (third) and Carter Mcllroy (fourth). Oakridge sophomore Peyton Ruel also qualified for the state finals with an 11th-place finish.

In the girls’ division, the Ludington Orioles finished with 74 points. Other local team scores included Whitehall (135/sixth), Fremont (205/seventh), Newaygo (222/ninth) and Oakridge (315/12th).

Top runners for Ludington were sophomore Summer Brower (seventh), freshman Christina Theis (11th), sophomore Nadia Grierson (12th), Autumn Brower (20th) and junior Olivia Andersen (24th).

Local runners who qualified as individuals were Fremont freshman Linnea Paige with a ninth-place finish and Newaygo junior Remington Arney, who finished in 10th place.

The Division 2 state finals meet will take place on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.
