GRAND RAPIDS –The Greater Muskegon co-op swim team posted a fifth-place finish at the Ottawa Hills Invite on Saturday with a score of 412.

The Turtles had a record night and achieved one meet record, four improved on MISCA times and two Division 1 state cuts.

“After a great week of training hard, the work hard is starting to pay off,” said Coach Mick Homan. “Love to see the improvements and adjustments made during races.”

Delaney Buckner swam to a first-place finish and made the MISCA state cut in the 100 fly (1:00.16) and 100 back (1:00.69).

The 200 free relay team of Sydney Sytsema, Robyn Hunt, Naomi Huttenga and Buckner finished second and claimed a MISCA state cut with a season-best time of 1:47.31.

Sytsema also snagged medals with third-place finishes in the 50 free (26.51) and 100 free (59.07).

The 400 free relay team of Isabella DeJonge, Susie Van Baale, Sophia Zziwambazza and Eva Stout recorded a season-best time of 4:24.76.

“I was very happy with everyone’s performance whether we had a PR/season best swim or close to those goals we swam very well Saturday,” Homan said.

The Turtles will dive back into action on Tuesday at Holland.
