HART — The Hart girls’ volleyball team hosted Walkerville in a non-conference match to end the regular season on Wednesday night.

In the last-minute schedule change, Hart came away with a three-set victory 25-17, 25-12 and 25-13.

The teams decided to play two more sets as a tune up for next week’s district tournament and the Pirates made it a clean sweep with two more wins, 25-9 and 15-8.

All but one Pirate saw action in the match, and each of them made the statistic sheet.

Pia Huebert played front row, while Mya Chickering and Mariana VanAgtmael and MaKayla Rockwell all tried their hand at new positions.

“The girls played well together as a team and pressed hard enough through rotation changes and playing different positions,” Hart coach Amanda Van Sickle said. “They showed just how great of a group of girls they are.”

Leading the Pirates included Rayah Helenhouse with five aces, eight kills, one block and five digs; Kelsey Copenhaver with 11 kills, six assists, four aces and four digs.

Also for the Pirates it was Rockwell with five aces, six assists, six digs, two kills and one block; Grace Gamble with three kills and four digs; VanAgtmael with four aces, two assists, six kills, 13 digs and one block.

Chickering finished with 11 kills, three digs, two aces and two assists; Hicks contributed three assists and two digs; Laura Bitely had four digs; Gabby Schmieding added three aces, two kills and three digs.

The Pirates improved to 27-9-5 on the season and travel to Brethren for a tri-meet with the host Bobcats and McBain Christian on Thursday, That will close out the regular season before districts begin.
