KENT CITY–The Kent City soccer team hosted Grant in the second round of the CSAA Bronze Tournament on Wednesday night. The Eagles came away with the 2-1 victory to move on to the conference tournament final.

Both teams made it deep into the attacking third early on in the match, but neither were able to find a shot on frame. Kent City began to control possession later on, until senior Jaret Jaramillo found Dylan Sutton on a through ball up the middle with 28 minutes left in the half. Sutton got past the Grant goalkeeper and tapped in the shot to put the Eagles up 1-0.

The Eagles continued to control possession throughout the first half but did not find the back of the net.

After the halftime break, Grant ramped up pressure on Kent City and forced the ball into the attacking third. With 20 minutes remaining, Grant striker Lucas Zanetti lofted a shot from 30 yards out that bounced off the Eagle goalkeeper’s hands and went into the net, tying the game at 1 apiece.

The teams continued to battle for 10 minutes left until Jaramillo drew a foul inside the box. He then knocked home the penalty kick to make it 2-1 Eagles. Kent City was able to maintain the lead until time expired.

Kent City improves to 12-1-2 on the season. They are next in action on Friday in the CSAA Bronze tournament final at Big Rapids.

Grant slips to 8-8 and will host Newaygo on Friday in the 3rd place match.
