KENT CITY–The Kent City volleyball team defeated Grant in three sets to finish off the CSAA regular season.

The result means the Eagles finished as the league champions with a 10-0 record.

Kent City started out strong, but the Tigers fought hard to come back and eventually tie the score at 14-14 in the first set. The teams continued to battle until a series of strong plays by Kent City senior Jacee Hoffman won the set for the Eagles, 25-15.

In the second set, Grant struggled to return Kent City’s serves and fell behind early. The Eagles held the lead and cruised to a 25-13 victory.

Kent City jumped out to an 11-1 lead in the deciding set. A Tiger comeback bid fell short and the Eagles won 25-15.

Kent City finished with 16 aces from 5 different servers. Susan Rau led the way with five.

Eagle junior Maddie Geers finished with 11 kills. Lexie Bowers added 9.

Grant’s Chloee Chase led the Tigers with 11 points, 13 assists, 15 digs, and 3 kills.  Julie Ashbaugh tallied 8 points, 4 kills, and 14 digs.

“We served very well tonight to keep them out of system and ran some very aggressive offense,” said Kent City coach Vandy Krueger.

Both teams are next in action at the CSAA conference tournament.
