LUDINGTON — It was the last home match of the season for Ludington, which took on West Michigan Conference-Lakes opponent Fremont on Tuesday night.

Before a large crowd at Hawley Gymnasium, the Orioles took care of business, turning back the visiting Packers, 25-23, 22-25, 25-18, 25-11.

“A lot of people showed up so the girls were pretty nervous, and it being our Senior Night things got a little emotional,” said Ludington coach Liz Holden. “We got in the swing of things, and really got amped up going into the third set. Our setter (Jordyn Anderson) came into her own and started putting balls down, and our hitters really came out hard the last two sets.

“Fremont played the best I have seen them play this season,” Holden said. “They weren’t letting anything go on defense. Our defense had to step it up, and the girls did what they had to do. They had to work really hard to earn this one.”

Anderson finished the night with 34 assists, five kills, seven blocks and nine digs. Maddy Vaara led the hitters with 16 kills and added 17 digs, two blocks and two aces. Karli Mesyar paced the defense with 27 digs, added two assists and one ace.

Keelyn Laird stepped up big at the attack line with 12 kills, had 15 digs, two blocks, one assist and one ace. Mia Pung contributed seven digs, three assists ands two aces.

Ashley McPike was tough at the net with eight blocks and also had five kills. Olivia Lynn had four blocks and one kill, while Mia Voss had two aces and three digs.

Offensive leaders for Fremont included Lily VandenBerg with four aces, followed by Kendall Barnhart with 3.  Attack leaders included Sage Vandenberg with 12 kills, Barnhart and Marcy Tanner with 7 kills apiece. Lily VandenBerg had 26 assists.

Defensively, the Packers had 49 digs.  Baylah Parker had 14 digs while Barnhart added 9.  Vandenberg, Taylor Waite and Mia Clemence each added 2 blocks.

Fremont travels to Hesperia for their annual Volley against Violence tournament on Saturday.  

The Orioles travel to Whitehall for a conference match next Tuesday night.
