BEAR LAKE–The Mason County Eastern Cardinals cross country teams swept the West Michigan D Championship Meet on Wednesday afternoon at Bear Lake.

In the boys’ division, the Cardinals finished with five runners in the top ten and finished with 33 points. Pentwater came in second place with 41 points and Bear Lake-Onekama came in third with 56.

Top runners for the Cardinals included senior Nathan Wing, who finished first, sophomore Alex Tyndall (fifth), junior Peter Hybza (eighth), junior Luke Niedzielski (ninth) and junior Clay Shoup (10th).

Top runners for Pentwater included junior Abe VanDuinen (third), junior (Mitchel Daniels (sixth), sophomore Kaleb Brown (seventh), freshman Wyatt Roberts (11th) and senior James Davis (15th).

In the girls’ division, Mason Eastern took the top three spots and finished with 22 points. Bear Lake-Onekama came in second place with 49 and Pentwater finished with 57.

Top runners for the Cardinals included sophomore Lucy Shoup, who finished in first place, freshman Lauren Niedzielski (second), junior Olivia Wing (third), freshman Elena Hopkins (eighth) and senior Angela Ramiro Puebla (14th).

Top runners for Pentwater included senior Anna VanDuinen (fifth), Isabel Lopez (ninth), freshman Lauren Davis (19th), senior Evalena Jeruzal (22nd) and junior Ireland Breitner (28th).
