Mona Shores’ Mayson Southland chosen LSJ golfer of the month

NORTON SHORES–Mona Shores sophomore Mayson Southland has been chosen as one of two girls golfers of the month for September by the Local Sports Journal.

During the 2022 girls golf season, Southland has an 18-hole average score of 87.7. In 9-hole events, she has a 44.5 average (these stats were as of September 22).

“Mayson is a very driven player,” Mona Shores golf coach Britni Gielow said. “She does not let the course beat her. If she’s having a bad day, I know she is going to play as hard as she can until the very end.”

Not bad for a player in just her second season of high school golf.

“She’s had a great season for such a young player,” Gielow said. “Her scores keep getting better and better as the season progresses. Looking forward to how the rest of her season goes.”

Southland is the daughter of Scot and Steffanie Southland. She has a 3.645 grade-point-average.
