MUSKEGON– – Volleyball teams from throughout Muskegon County came to compete in the GMAA City Tournament on Saturday.

Mona Shores capped the day with a victory over Montague in the championship match.

The meet was held at Reeths-Puffer High School and Orchard View High School.

The Sailors didn’t lose a match all day. They also took down Oakridge (25-5, 25-21) and Fruitport (25-17, 25-17).

Ava Dunn led the way with 40 kills and eight blocks, while Kyann Hellmann added 94 assists.

Grace Allen had 24 kills with five blocks and Jersey VanderWall had 14 kills and five blocks.

Mona Shores (22-9, 6-2) will travel to Zeeland West on Tuesday for the second game of the OK Conference-Green tournament.

Montague finished runner-up to the Sailors and wrapped up the day with a record of 2-1.

The Wildcats topped North Muskegon (11-25, 25-18, 16-14) and Western Michigan Christian (25-17, 23-25, 15-8).

Anastasia Trevino chipped in 41 kills, five blocks and two aces. Jaelyn Sundberg contributed 119 assists, 12 digs and five aces.

Laura Borras threw in 37 kills, 24 digs and two aces, while Jordan Netcott had 17 digs and five aces.

Montague (18-21-1, 5-1) will travel to North Muskegon on Tuesday.

Fruitport rounded out the tournament with a third-place finish.

The Trojans edged out Reeths-Puffer (25-22, 25-23) and North Muskegon (25-22, 21-25, 15-9). The loss came at the hands of Mona Shores (17-25, 17-25).

Sadie Haase led with 30 kills, 12 digs and two aces, while Auebre Johnson had 26 digs, 13 kills and an ace.

Gracelynn Olson offered up 46 assists, five aces and five kills. Kayla Kolberg made 25 digs and scored seven aces.

Fruitport travels to Allendale on Tuesday.

Western Michigan Christian also had a solid day with a finish of 2-1.

The Warriors fell to Montague (17-25, 25-23, 8-15), but defeated Whitehall (25-17, 25-22) and Reeths-Puffer (25-21, 25-23).

Abby Leffring led the Warriors with 16 kills, 13 blocks and 11 aces, while Ashley Folkema had 21 kills and four blocks.

Also, Kendal Young had 42 assists and Nora Anderson scored four aces.

Western Michigan Christian will visit Whitehall on Thursday for a quad-match.

Reeths-Puffer played every set close, but ultimately closed out action with a record of 1-2.

The Rockets got by Oakridge (25-20, 25-21), but fell short to Fruitport (22-25, 23-25) and Western Michigan Christian (21-25, 23-25).

Madisyn Dykema had 19 kills, five blocks and four aces, while Billie Tryska had 17 kills and seven blocks. Sophia Hekkema added 15 kills with 14 digs and Natalie Kunnen made eight kills and two aces. Emme Buzzell and Lauren Nelson contributed six and five aces, respectively.

Reeths-Puffer (14-17-2) will compete in the second round of the OK Conference-Green tournament at Zeeland East on Tuesday.

Muskegon Catholic Central posted two wins in Tier 2 of the tournament.

The Crusaders took down Muskegon (25-10, 25-17, 25-16) and Orchard View (25-13, 25-19, 25-15).

Claire LaVigne led for the Crusaders with 26 assists, 17 aces, 14 digs and nine kills. Elana LaGuire chipped in nine digs with seven aces and Natalie Rich had seven aces, five kills and five digs. Muskegon Catholic Central (9-11, 3-3) is set to travel to Zion Christian on Tuesday.
