LOWELL—The Reeths-Puffer and Mona Shores girls golf teams competed in the MHSAA girls division 2 golf regionals on Tuesday at Arrowhead Golf Course in Lowell.
While neither qualified as a team for the state finals, Paige Anderson from Reeths-Puffer did qualify as an individual for the state finals as she shot a round of 86. That was good for a fourth-place finish.
“I am very happy for Paige,” Rockets coach Matt Pallett said. “She has had a great season. It would have been tough if she did not make it out of regionals today. Regionals have a lot of pressure. It is one event. If you don’t play well your season is done. Paige did not have her best stuff, but battled through to qualify for the state finals for the second year in a row.
“Paige’s last hole is one of the toughest holes on the course. She knew all she needed was a bogey to get in. She smartly decided to lay up. Her third shot she stuck ten feet from the pin. She got down in two from there to punch her ticket to the state finals,” Pallett said.
As a team Reeths-Puffer ended up in 12th place with a round of plus-158.
“I am very fortunate to be able to coach a fine group of young ladies,” Pallett said. “Their parents have raised some good ones and the whole community should be proud of their efforts this year”.
Following Anderson for the Rockets were Abby Haak (112), Ella Klimsza (120), Avery Luna (127) and Rowan Bluhm (+24 through ten holes). Unfortunately, Rowan Bluhm had to withdraw from the event after reaggravating her hand injury from earlier in the year.
Meanwhile, Mona Shores finished in eighth place at 395.
Leading the way for the Sailors was Mayson Southland, who shot a round of 90 and finished in 12th place. Following her was Lainee Carmean (95), Maddie Etterman (102), Summer Darrow (108) and Raelyn Tyler (115).
“It was a great season,” said Sailors’ coach Britni Gielow.
Anderson will compete in the MHSAA girls Division 2 state finals on October 14-15 at Forest Akers West on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing.
