HOLTON — Hart punched its ticket into the Division 3 district championship game for the first time in 10 years Monday night with a 2-0 semifinal win over Montague at Holton.

The Pirates shut out the Wildcats, 2-0, and then tied them 2-2 in two previous meetings earlier this season.

The Pirates got their break when junior Josue Salgado pressed the Montague back line and pickpocketed a Wildcat defender to get one-on-one with their goalie. Salgado fired a shot into the back of the net with nine minutes left in the half for a 1-0 lead.

That’s how the first half ended.

Hart had the wind at its back the second half and went full steam ahead. Nine minutes into the second half, Adan Cruz got a break down the right side and fire a cross into the box that a Montague defender deflected into the net to make it 2-0 for the Pirates.

Harto’s continued pressure in the offensive end kept Montague’ from mounting any kind of attack in the offensive zone.

The Pirates are now 13-6-2 with one of their highest season win totals in program history. Hart will play Manistee in the district finals at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hart.
