SPRING LAKE–Spring Lake scored 23 unanswered points in the second half to beat Hamilton, 31-16.

After a scoreless first quarter, Hamilton got on the board with a 14-yard touchdown pass with 10:23 remaining in the first half to go up 8-0. Spring Lake tied the ballgame halfway through the second quarter on Alexander Lee’s 13-yar touchdown run.

A 21-yard touchdown pass with 24 second left in the first half put Hamilton up 16-8 at halftime.

Spring Lake tightened down their defense in the second half and the offense kicked it into gear.

Gerrit Lyyski ran for a 48-yard touchdown run to even the score once again. With 27 seconds in the third quarter, Reid Grimmer punched it in from 1 yard out to give the Lakers a 24-16 lead.

Late in the fourth quarter, a 2-yard touchdown run by Lee put the game away.

The Lakers ran for 318 yards behind Lee’s 160-yard performance on 22 carries and two touchdowns. Lyyski contributed 109 yards on five attempts and one touchdown.

Grimmer passed for 20 yards with two completions on four attempts while also rushing for a touchdown. Both completions were to Derrick Paggeot.

Lee was the leading tackler for the Lakers with seven total tackles, two for loss, and a sack. Noah VanDreumel contributed five tackles, one for loss. Paggeot, Lyyski, and Alexander Hoisington added four tackles each while Lyyski had an interception.

Spring Lake (2-5, 1-4) takes on first-place Hudsonville Unity Christian next week in a road game.
