ALLENDALE–The Spring Lake girls cross country team is heading for the Division 2 state finals Saturday after a second-place regional finish.

The regional meet was at Allendale.

The Lakers finished with 53 points, seven points behind regional champion Grand Rapids Christian (46 points). The only other local team was the Fruitport Trojans, who finished in ninth place with 244 points.

The top five runners for Spring Lake were senior Lily Parker, who finished in fourth place, sophomore Lexie Ruffing was eighth and freshman Alexis Kotkowicz came in ninth. Freshman Meghan Guczwa finished in 14th place and junior Bea Reeser came in 20th.

In the boys’ division, Spring Lake finished in fourth place with 121 points. Fruitport finished in eighth place with 198 points. 

Spring Lake junior Lucas Ruffing (13th) and Fruitport sophomore Vincent Pollock (14th) both qualified for the state finals as individuals.

The state finals meet will be at the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.
