WHITE CLOUD — After a slow start, as well as having to overcome some tough calls in the first set of the match, the Hart girls volleyball team pulled out a 3-1 victory over White Cloud on the road Thursday night in the West Michigan Conference-Rivers.

It took the Pirates some time to find their groove, digging an 11-20 hole for themselves in the first set before launching an amazing comeback before losing, 23-25.

The next three sets were just as close, but this time it was the Pirates finishing on the winning end, 25-20, 25-21 and then 25-12.

“We showed a lot of grit, and true mental toughness throughout the match,” said Hart head coach Amanda VanSickle.

Hart’s leaders included Mariana VanAgtmael who had 17 digs on defense, served up three aces and had one assist.

Addi Hovey topped the offensive statistics with 12 kills from the attack line while adding four blocks and two digs.

Mya Chickering contributed seven service aces, six kills, six digs and one block.

Gabby Schmieding finished the night with two assists, two kills and one service ace.

Rayah Helenhouse added two digs, one kill and one assist.

Kelsey Copenhaver had three digs, three kills, two aces, nine assists and one block.

MaKayla Rockwell added seven assists, two kills and five digs.

Hart improved its record to 20-4-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference, and are next scheduled to see action next Tuesday  night.

White Cloud will host Newaygo next Tuesday evening.
