ALLENDALE–The Western Michigan Christian Warriors and Kent City Eagle girls’ cross country teams are headed to the Division 3 state finals this Saturday.

WMC finished in second place and Kent City was third at regionals this past Saturday in Allendale.

Central Montcalm took top honors with 65 points. They were followed by WMC with 76 points and Kent City with 99 points.

WMC sophomore Grace VanderKooi led WMC with a third-place finish. Other top runners for the Warriors included junior Grace Folkema, who came in 11th place and junior Eleanor Kingshott finished in the 20th spot. Senior Brianna Zuidema finished 22nd and freshman Alia Zuidema came in 23rd.

Kent City sophomore Lila Volkers was the regional champion with a time of 18:03.09. Other top Kent City runners included junior Gracie Houtman, who had a 12th-place finish, and freshman Lydia Howard who came in 25th place. Junior Isabella Max finished in 27th place and sophomore Alisha Esquivel finished 37th.

North Muskegon senior Carolyn Bennett also qualified for the state finals with a 14th-place finish.

In the boys’ division, no local teams qualified for the state finals.

North Muskegon came in fourth place with 123 points while Western Michigan Christian finished in fifth with 139 points. Kent City finished in seventh place with 180 while Montague came in 10th place with 229 points.  Ravenna finished 12th with 290 points. 

Kent City junior Samuel Martini finished in second place and junior teammate Jaren Vogel came in 12th place. WMC sophomore Matthias Morse came in 13th place. All three runners qualified for state as individuals.

The Division 3 state finals will be at the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.
