MUSKEGON — Little did anyone suspect that Orchard View’s football season was over two weeks ago, although the Cardinals were hoping to have enough players to play this week’s scheduled contest at Whitehall.

But the Cardinals, who have not played since a 38-16 loss to West Michigan Conference-Lakes opponent Fremont, were forced to notify Whitehall school officials that they would not be able to field enough players for a team for the third consecutive week.

Orchard View ends the season 0-9 overall and 0-5 in the conference with the forfeit.

With little to no time to find another opponent for this week, the Vikings clinched an outright conference title with a 6-0 mark, and improved to 9-0 overall.

The Vikings are all but assured of a berth in the MHSAA playoffs.
