MUSKEGON–The Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks got by the Flying Dutch of Hope College (JV team)  by a score of 73-56 on Thursday evening in a game played at MCC.
 
The Jayhawks jumped out to a 22-13 lead after the first quarter of action and never looked back, maintaining a 10-point lead throughout the game.
 
MCC outscored Hope 19-16 in the second stanza to take a halftime lead of 41-29.
 
The Jayhawks held the upper hand in the third quarter 18-14 and in the final ten minutes of play 14-13 for the final 17-point margin win
 
Individuals stepped up and helped the Jayhawks put together a total team effort against a strong Hope College program.
 
Coach Jason Cooper said “It was a good win tonight! We needed everyone to contribute tonight and they did.”
 
MCC had five players hit for double digits led by Yuna Soma (Komaba) with 17 points. She was followed by Fremont freshman Haley Zerlaut with 15 points while another Fremont standout sophomore Calla Miller tossed in 14 points to go along with 5 rebounds. Whitehall sophomore Karleigh Jeffries chiped in with a double-double tossing in 10 points to go along with a game high 14 rebounds. Newaygo freshman Emmerson Goodin had 10 points while grabbing 7 rebounds. Shelby freshman Kendall Zoulek contributed 6 points and hauled down 5 rebounds while Fruitport freshman Anna Bol had one point to round out the Jayhawks scoring.
 
The Jayhawks are off to a 3-1 start in the regular season against strong non-league teams. The Jayhawks will face the Calvin College JV’s  at home on Wednesday, November 16 at 5:30 pm.
