Kahleeya Cook tried all she could to help the Mona Shores girls basketball team dig out in its 45-39 loss to host Holland West Ottawa on Tuesday.

Cook scored 19 points to lead the Sailors who were outscored 20-6 in the first quarter and trailed 29-18 at halftime.

Mona Shores outscored the Panthers 9-8 in the third quarter and 12-8 in the fourth but the offensive improvement was not enough.

Laynie Russell scored seven points to help Mona Shores and Mayson Southland chipped in four.

Holland West Ottawa was paced by Gabby Reynolds with 18 points and Chelsea Overbeek added 12.

The Sailors next head to East Grand Rapids on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
