FREMONT — After ironing out some wrinkles that come with every first game, the Fremont boys basketball team sped away from Shelby, 58-30 in a non-conference game at home Tuesday night.

Despite both teams suffering from sloppy play in the fist half, the Packers (1-0) managed to gain control and led, 12-6 after one quarter. They outscored Shelby (0-1), 14-8 in the second to lead for a 26-14 lead at the half.

The Packers found a little more rhythm in the second half, and outscored Shelby with a 32-16 margin.

Jordon McDonald topped all scorers in the game with 25 points for the Fremont. His stat line also included 12 boards, three steals and five blocks.

Davin Richards pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the Packers and also contributed four points. Chaz Miller dished out four assists, picked off three steals and scored four points.

Bishop Lee scored nine points and hauled down seven rebounds for the Tigers. Carson Claeys added six points and three assists, while Mason Garcia scored five points and Wyatt Dickman picked off three steals.

Fremont begins play in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Divison when the Packers travel to Ludington for a game with the Orioles on Friday night.
