BIG RAPIDS — It was not a good evening for the Fremont Packer girls’ basketball team on Tuesday night.

It started slowly for Fremont and never got any better as the Packers dropped a 61-16 decision to undefeated Maple City Glen Lake. The game was part of the Holiday Hoops Showcase at Ferris State University.

Fremont fell behind 16-3 after one quarter and the deficit grew to 41-5 by halftime.

“We faced a very good opponent tonight and didn’t show up to play,” Fremont coach Wes Zerlaut said. “They were more skilled than us, but we didn’t play as hard or as disciplined as we need to in order to be competitive. We need to compete on every single possession – we did not – and that falls squarely on my shoulders.”

Khaila Noordyk led Fremont with six points. The Packers made 6-of-29 shots for 21 percent and were plagued by 33 turnovers.

Maple City is now 4-0.

Fremont (1-5, 0-2) hosts Sparta Wednesday night.
