GRAND RAPIDS — The Fremont girls basketball team led for much of Friday’s game only to fall in the final minutes to Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills.

The host Bengals posted a 36-33 victory on their home court.

“It was a very disappointing loss,” Fremont coach Wes Zerlaut said. “We struggled to convert around the basket for much of the night. It was an extremely physical game and we did not handle it as well as I hoped that we would. As much as we struggled in the physical aspects of the game, it was our mental miscues that proved to be the biggest difference between pulling out a win tonight and suffering a tough loss.”

Fremont was plagued by poor free-throw shooting. The Packers made just eight of their 23 attempts.

Lily Vandenberg led Fremont (1-3, 0-1) with 11 points. Khaila Noordyk added nine and Mia Clemence had eight.
