GRAND HAVEN–The Grand Haven Buccaneers girls basketball team opened up the season with a heartbreaking 31-30 loss to the Traverse City Central Trojans.

Grand Haven led 20-14 at the end of the first half but got outscored 11-5 in the third quarter to knot the score up at 25-25 entering the fourth quarter. 

It was a back and forth contest during the final eight minutes of action which saw the Bucs miss six free throw attempts in the fourth quarter.

Junior Maddie Schopf led Grand Haven with 9 points including 3 three pointers.  Grace Harrison had 7 points and Heidi Berkey and Emersen Berndt each had 6 points.  Heidi Berkey led the Bucs with 7 rebounds and 4 steals and Grace Harrison led with 3 assists.   

The Bucs (0-1) play on the road at Reeths-Puffer next Friday December 9th at 6pm.
