SHELBY – Using pressure defense to set the tone, Hart took control of the game early and sped away to a 60-16 win over Shelby on the road Friday night in the West Michigan Conference Rivers Division.

Hart senior Savanna Owens received the assignment of defending the Tigers’ point guard, and did a tremendous job applying pressure which led to several turnovers and easy baskets.

After one quarter the Pirates led, 27-4 and the outcome was settled as nothing much changed the rest of the way. Hart galloped into the half resting on a 44-7 cushion. It was 55-14 after three.

The Pirates were led by Addi Hovey with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Abby Hicks contributed 14 points and six rebounds, while Aspen Boutell added nine points, five assists and five steals.

Marianna VanAgtmael finished with 11 points, six rebounds, seven assists and five steals.

Kendall Zaveri led the Tigers with six points and nine rebounds.

Hart (2-0, 1-0 WMC Rivers) is at home for its next game Thursday night against Muskegon Heights.

Shelby (1-1, 0-1 WMC Rivers) is at home again Tuesday night for a crossover game with Fremont.
