LAKE MATTOON, ILL–The Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks dropped the second game of their weekend tournament with a 70-51 setback to the Lake Land Lakers.

The Lakers came into the game on Saturday as the No. 6-ranked team in the nation.

The Jayhawks led after the first quarter of play 16-15.

The Lakers outscored MCC 19-13 in the second stanza to take a 34-29 halftime lead.

The second half of the game was a tough one as Lake Land knocked down some key outside shots. The Lakers racked up a third quarter 20-9 scoring advantage. Lake Land had a 20-13 scoring run in the final quarter.

 “The score doesn’t reflect the effort we gave today,” MCC coach Jason Cooper said. “I’m very proud of the team and how they played the No. 6 team in the country.”

 Emmerson Goodin led the MCC offense with 14 points and seven rebounds. Karleigh Jeffries scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds. Haley Zerlaut finished with 9 points.

The Jayhawks (5-4) returns to action Friday, Dec. 30 at Henry Ford.
