LAKE MATTOON, ILL–The Lady Jayhawks got a tough win against Spoon River to open up a two-game tournament in Mattoon, Illinois.

MCC won the opener 67-66 on Friday night.

“It was a tough win on the road today,” MCC coach Jason Cooper said. “We found a way as a team to win a nail biter.”

Emmerson Goodin was the leading scorer for the Lady Jayhawks with 17 points and eight rebounds. Ally Sieber added 12 points and five boards. Karleigh Jeffries also finished in double figures with 11 points and four rebounds.

Other key contributors for the Lady Jayhawks included Yuna Soma with eight points and Calla Miller and Kendall Zoulek with seven points each.

The Jayhawks will take the court again Saturday, Dec. 17 against tournament host Lake Land College at 2 p.m.
