WHITE CLOUD — Mason County Central’s girls basketball team stayed perfect Tuesday night with a 57-18 win over White Cloud.

The non-conference game was played in White Cloud, where the home crowd saw the Indians suffer their first loss on the season.
 
Defense was a key for the Spartans, who gained an early 14-5 advantage at the end of the first quarter and outscored the Indians, 16-3, in the second to build a comfortable 30-8 lead at the half.
 
A 14-5 advantage in the third quarter sent the Spartans into the fourth period with a 44-13 lead. They finished with a 13-5 run in the final eight minutes.
 
Wren Nelson paced the Spartans with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Grace Weinert added 11 points and four steals. Mallory Miller contributed seven assists and five steals.
 
Evangeline Hradel scored nine points to lead the Indians. Peyton Welch chipped in eight.
 
The Spartans (4-0) hosts Ravenna on Friday in the West Michigan Conference Rivers Division.
 
White Cloud (4-1, 2-1) hosts Central Montcalm on Friday in a Central State Activities Association game.
