MUSKEGON–A rough second half for the Mona Shores Sailors girls’ basketball team against the East Grand Rapids Pioneers saw Mona Shores come up short, 59-40.

Saturday’s game was part of the Lakeshore Classic Hoops Summit played at Reeths-Puffer.

The Sailors made a game of it in the first half.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 15-8 lead after the first eight minutes of action.

Mona Shores narrowed the halftime gap to 23-22 by outscoring the Pioneers 14-8 in the second quarter.

East Grand Rapids owned the second half by outscoring Mona Shores 16-9 in the third quarter and 19-9 in the fourth quarter.

Khaleeya Cook led Mona Shores with 11 points. Katie Phillips and Ali Phillips finished with nine and eight points, respectively

Macy Brown led East Grand Rapids with 22 points

Mona Shores (2-2) will be back in action on Tuesday at Grand Haven.
