FRUITPORT — The Montague Wildcats got off to a strong start on Tuesday night and posted a 47-39 boys basketball victory over the host Fruitport Trojans.

Montague surged to an 18-9 lead after one quarter and increased that to 35-21 at the half. Fruitport was able to cut a few points off the deficit in the second half.

Isaiah Atchison led Montague with 15 points and 12 rebounds. He made 7-of-11 shots from the field. Owen Raeth added 10 points and six steals. Braeden Johnston had six rebounds.

“I was very happy to come out with a win in a hard-fought, physical contest,” Montague coach Dave Osborne said. “Fruitport came ready to play and gave us a tough battle.”
