HESPERIA–North Muskegon allowed only eight first half points in a 60-14 win over Hesperia on Thursday evening.
“We got out to a good start and were able to extend it each quarter,” North Muskegon coach Chuck Rypstra said. “Hesperia battled and did some good things, but we were ready and got the win.”
The North Muskegon lead was 19-2 at the end of the first quarter and increased to 36-8 at halftime. The lead increased further to 54-14 at the end of the third quarter.
James Young led the Norsemen finishing with 11 points, five rebounds, five steals, and five assists. Troy McManus added nine points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Sam Gallo tallied nine points and Brandon Rypstra had eight points. Jaxon Lisinski contributed seven points and five rebounds.
For Hesperia, Matteo Materdomini and Ethan O’Neal each had four points.
“North Muskegon came out strong and played great on both ends of the floor,” Hesperia coach Andrew Worcester said. “Certainly, a tough opening game to have going into our first conference game in the West Michigan Conference. We accomplished a few goals defensively that we can be happy with. I’m proud of the effort and commitment to improving.
“Offensively we still struggle to make open shots,” Worcester said. “However, we will continue to work hard and improve all areas going forward. North Muskegon was very classy and respectful; something that speaks volumes for their program.”
North Muskegon (3-1, 1-1) will play at Shelby in another WMC clash next Tuesday.
Hesperia (0-5, 0-1) hosts rival Holton next Tuesday.
