MUSKEGON–North Muskegon came out quickly on Wednesday evening and took care of business against the Orchard View Cardinals.
Led by Troy McManus, the Norsemen posted a 59-29 victory over the Cardinals in the first of three games of the 2022 Muskegon Sports Hall of Fame Classic held at Reeths-Puffer high school.
North Muskegon shot out of the gate and led 14-6 at the end of the first quarter. The Norsemen doubled up the Cardinals in the second quarter and the lead ballooned to 34-16 at halftime.
McManus had 20 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Sam Gallo had a strong performance with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Lamarkis Graham finished with seven points.
The Cardinals were led by BJ Sewell Jr. with 11 points and six rebounds. Cari Flowers had nine points and three steals. Stephon Oakes finished with four points and five rebounds.
“We were able to jump ahead early and kept them at bay for the first half,” said NM coach Chuck Rypstra. “In the third quarter they made a little push, but we weathered it and took care of the ball in the fourth quarter to get the win.”
The Norsemen (5-1, 2-1) will host Hart on January 6.
Orchard View (2-4, 1-2) will host Oakridge on January 6.
