GRAND HAVEN–The Petoskey Northmen wasted little time in putting away the Muskegon Heights Tigers on Friday afternoon.

The Northmen posted a 76-37 victory in the opening game of the Lake Michigan Cup tournament at Grand Haven High School.

Petoskey raced out to a 22-7 lead by the end of the first quarter and tacked on another 22-point second quarter to carry a commanding 44-20 lead into the half.

The Northmen outscored the Heights 35-17 in the second half.

Petoskey had a dozen players score, led by James Marshall with 17 points. Joining him in double figures were Cade Trudeau with 15 points and Shane Izzard with 11.

Jaquan Mathews led the Tigers with 15 points and My’Quel White finished with 12.

Heights (0-3) hosts Adrian on Friday, Jan. 6.
