SPRING LAKE — The Reeths-Puffer Rockets spoiled the home opener for Spring Lake on Friday night in girls’ basketball action.

Reeths-Puffer used solid free-throw shooting in the final quarter to pull away for a 46-36 victory over the Lakers.

The Rockets led 25-14 at the half before the Lakers fought back to within four in the middle of the fourth quarter. In that pivotal final quarter, the Rockets made 10-of-12 free throws to put the game away.

Sophia Hekkema sparked the Rockets with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Arial Walker added 12 points and Brooklyn Tornes had four steals.

Spring Lake, which was plagued by 1-for-18 shooting from three-point range, was led by Alexa Carter with 10 points and six rebounds. Ellie Wrona and Brooke Brookhouse each added seven points. Tessa Britt had six points and six rebounds and Ella Andree dished four four assists.

Spring Lake (1-1) will host Montague on Tuesday night while Reeths-Puffer (1-1) will host Grand Haven next Friday.
