FREMONT–Visiting Sparta jumped out to a 11-2 first quarter lead en route to a 49-35 win over Fremont on Wednesday.

The Spartans held a 28-11 halftime and a 39-20 third-quarter lead.

Khaila Noordyk finished with 12 points and nine boards for the Packers.

Andrea Peat dropped 18 points for the Spartans while Makayla Hatchow added 16 points.

The Packers shot 20 from the field while Sparta shot 39 percent.

“Our effort and energy was greatly improved from our game last night,” Fremont coach Wes Zerlaut said. “We also improved significantly in our battle with turnovers, only committing three in the second half, for a total of 16 on the game. The first quarter was the difference in the game. We had some good offensive possessions in the first quarter and got good shots, but couldn’t make a basket, settling for 2-6 from the free throw line for our only points in the quarter.”

Fremont (1-6, 0-2) will look to get back on the winning track against Howard City Tri County at home on Jan. 3.
