NORTON SHORES — The host Western Michigan Christian Warriors had a battle from start to finish and pulled out a tight 33-31 victory over Martin on Tuesday night.

The game was tied after one quarter. The Warriors led by two points at the half and three points after three quarters.

Martin led by two points with two minutes left. Ashley Folkema scored on a three-point play to give the Warriors the lead. The victory was secured with 8 seconds left when Alia Zuidema rebounded Martin’s last shot and the clock ran out.

“Martin did a great job with their defense,” Warrior coach Sarah Koetsier said. “We struggled to make our offense work in the first quarter.  We worked hard to score some big transition baskets and fought hard to get rebounds tonight.”

Ashley Folkema led the Warriors with 15 points and 10 rebounds.  Kate Derdowski had seven points and four rebounds.  Zuidema had seven points, six rebounds and three steals.
